For Electronic and Electrical Products, BSMI Certification mainly involves electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing and electrical safety testing. The test standards mainly refer to the Taiwan National Standard (CNS standard), and some CNS standards are equivalent to the IEC International Standard. BSMI Certification pays particular attention to EMC requirements, and most Electronic and Electrical Products require EMC Testing in order to be certified.
BSMI Certification requirements: manufacturers (foreign manufacturers need to designate a local agent in Taiwan) must apply for Certification to BSMI or its designated certification bodies. After passing certification, products must affix the BSMI Certification mark and the Commodity Inspection Mark before they can be legally sold in the Taiwan market.
The legal basis of BSMI Certification is Taiwan's Commodity Inspection Act. According to the Act, BSMI classifies commodities into two categories: "commodities subject to mandatory inspection" and "commodities subject to voluntary inspection". Commodities subject to mandatory inspection must pass BSMI Certification to be sold in the Taiwan market. BSMI commodity inspection methods include: Type Approval Batch-by-Batch Inspection, Registration of Product Certification, and Declaration of Conformity.
