System Certification
The Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive is one of the most impactful environmental regulations affecting the electronics industry. Since its introduction, RoHS has fundamentally changed how electronic products are designed, manufactured, and tested.
What is RoHS?
The RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU) restricts the use of specific hazardous materials in electrical and electronic equipment, protecting human health and the environment.
Restricted Substances Under RoHS
- Lead (Pb) — 0.1% by weight (1000 ppm)
- Mercury (Hg) — 0.1% by weight (1000 ppm)
- Cadmium (Cd) — 0.01% by weight (100 ppm)
- Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+) — 0.1% by weight
- PBB and PBDE — 0.1% by weight (flame retardants)
- Four Phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP) — 0.1% by weight (added in RoHS 3)
Testing Methods
RoHS compliance is typically verified through analytical testing using X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) screening for initial assessment, followed by ICP-OES or GC-MS for precise quantification of restricted substances.
Anmai Testing provides comprehensive RoHS testing services with advanced XRF, ICP-OES, and GC-MS instruments.
