SONCAP (Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Programme) is a mandatory conformity assessment program for products imported into Nigeria. Administered by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), SONCAP ensures that imported products meet applicable Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) or approved international standards. The program requires pre-shipment inspection, testing, and certification before goods can clear Nigerian customs.

Applicable Standards

Certification Process

Complete Process from Application to Certification

Step 1: Product Testing

Submit product samples to a SON-approved laboratory for testing against applicable NIS standards.

Step 2: Pre-Shipment Inspection

Arrange for physical inspection of goods before shipment from the exporting country.

Step 3: Documentation Review

Submit test reports, invoices, packing lists, and other required documentation for review.

Step 4: Certificate of Conformity

Obtain a SONCAP Certificate of Conformity (CoC) for each shipment from the appointed certification body.

Step 5: Form M Processing

Use the CoC to support Form M application with Nigerian banks for import processing.

Step 6: Customs Clearance

Present the SONCAP certificate at Nigerian customs for clearance of goods.
