BQB Certification Overview

BQB Certification Overview
BQB certification is based on the Bluetooth SIG membership agreement and the Bluetooth Core Specification. Only products that have passed BQB certification may legally use the "Bluetooth" name and Bluetooth logo.
BQB certification is conducted by BQTF (Bluetooth Qualified Test Facility) authorized by Bluetooth SIG. Test reports issued by BQTF are submitted to Bluetooth SIG for review. After certification is approved, product information is listed in the Bluetooth SIG official database (Launch Studio).
BQB (Bluetooth Qualification Body) certification is the Bluetooth product compliance certification system managed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). All products using Bluetooth technology must pass BQB certification and obtain the right to use the Bluetooth logo.
Before understanding Bluetooth BQB certification, we need to understand Bluetooth SIG. Bluetooth SIG is a company founded by eight major wireless communication industry giants, specifically responsible for Bluetooth specification development, technology promotion, and qualification certification. It was established in 1998. Bluetooth SIG owns the Bluetooth Trademarks and freely authorizes its members to use Bluetooth wireless technology and its registered trademarks, but corresponding products must pass Bluetooth qualification certification, which is commonly known as Bluetooth BQB certification. This means that any product with Bluetooth functionality must pass BQB certification; otherwise, the product will be considered an infringement by Bluetooth SIG. Bluetooth SIG currently has more than 31,000 member companies.
Not all products that support Bluetooth functionality are called Bluetooth products. Only after being tested and certified by SIG (Special Interest Group) to comply with Bluetooth standards can they be marketed as Bluetooth products. Additionally, BLUETOOTH and other logos and identifiers are registered trademarks of Bluetooth SIG. Products must be certified by SIG before being authorized to use these logos and identifiers; otherwise, it is illegal.

Test Items and Standards

Core Test Items and Indicators

BQB certification testing based on Bluetooth Core Specification (current version 5.4)RF conformance testing, Protocol conformance testing, Profile conformance testing.
RF TestingTransmit power, frequency range, modulation characteristics, receiver sensitivity, maximum input level, etc.
Protocol TestingLink Layer (LL), Logical Link Control and Adaptation (L2CAP), Generic Access Profile (GAP), etc.
Profile TestingTesting based on Bluetooth profiles supported by the product (e.g., A2DP/HFP/HID/GATT, etc.).
Testing must be conducted at a Bluetooth SIG-authorized BQTF laboratory (e.g., Allion, GRL, UNH-IOL, etc.).
All test items required for Bluetooth qualification certification are defined and categorized in TCRL.
Basic test items include RF, BB, LM, L2CAP, SDP, and GAP; as well as other extended tests (including Profile and Protocol tests) and Profile IOP interoperability testing.
BQB testing includes the following test categories by type:
Protocol Conformance Test
Profile Conformance Test
Profile Interoperability Test

Certification Process

Complete Process from Application to Certification

01
Step 1
Determine the applicable BQB technical standards and testing requirements for the product
02
Step 2
Prepare samples (3-6 units) and technical documents (specifications, circuit diagrams, etc.)
03
Step 3
Send to a Bluetooth SIG-authorized laboratory for testing
04
Step 4
Obtain test report after passing tests
05
Step 5
Submit certification application and test report to Bluetooth SIG through a local agent
06
Step 6: Certificate issued after Bluetooth SIG review and approval
Product can be legally sold
1. QDL (Qualified Design Listing) prototype/finished product application
2. EPL Listing Type refers to the listing form of Bluetooth BQB certification. For example, for a Bluetooth speaker finished product, if the Bluetooth module has already passed BQB certification, the Bluetooth speaker product does not need to reapply for BQB certification. With authorization from the module supplier, the product can be uploaded to the BQB website in listing form.
2. Block Diagram;
3. Schematic (circuit diagram): The block diagram and schematic must correspond; the block diagram must mark all crystals;
4. Operational Description;
5. PCB Layout;
6. Frequency calibration software and debugging methods;
7. Product User Guide;
8. Bill of Materials (Components);
9. Technical Data Sheet of Bluetooth Antenna (if designed as PCB antenna, the antenna gain value can be entered directly on page 1 of the application form; the antenna specification sheet may not be provided);
3. Authorization Letter/NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) - required for PL.
4. Do C/SDo C (Declaration of Conformity) - document for signature provided during listing.
6. After listing is complete, the company needs to purchase a DID number.
Note: One DID number applies to only one specification of module, for one designOnce the Bluetooth module hardware design is fixed, as long as the Bluetooth application (profile) is the same, testing is not required and direct listing is possible.
NoteWhen applying for Bluetooth BQB certification, a registration number (QDID) must be obtained first.

Important Notes

Important Information Before Applying

Global wireless certifications typically accept FCC or CE test reports, but require a local agent to submit the application.
Certification cycle varies by country and product type, typically 2-8 weeks.
We recommend confirming certification requirements during the product design phase to avoid modifications later.
Product labels must display the corresponding certification mark and ID number.
